Prominent TV Star Comedian facing Child Sex Charge(nz) it's the internet, be stupid

The prominent comedian facing a child sex charge denies the allegation and will fight to clear his name, says a close friend.

The defendant, who has name suppression, was bailed to the friend's home after appearing before Auckland District Court on Tuesday.

He is charged with unlawful sexual connection with a child under 12, understood to be his daughter.

The friend said he was drawn into the situation when the comedian arrived at his house at 4.30am on December 10, soon after the alleged offending.

The defendant "had been out and had a few drinks in him", said the friend, who met the comedian through work and mutual associates.

The comedian had returned to the house he shared with his partner and went into their bedroom, without realising his daughter was sleeping with her mum.

"The next thing he knows is when he wakes up and [his partner] is yelling, 'What the hell are you doing?'

"He got the shock of his life and went 'oh God'. [His partner] kicked him out of the bedroom and the house and then called the cops."

The friend said the comedian was "devastated", and particularly upset his partner didn't give him the chance to explain himself before calling police.

The friend said the couple's relationship was "going through a rocky patch".

Other associates were standing by the comedian. One he worked closely with was "absolutely shattered" by the allegations.
"All his mates have rallied around," said the friend.

"They totally have faith in him and they know he is innocent so they want to clear his name. But the problem is his professional life - you can only imagine what he is going through."

The friend said the comedian's mental state was poor after his arrest but was slowly improving.

"The good thing is he is getting determined that he has to clear his name and so I think he is better now, but I have never seen anyone that low before - it is an absolutely terrible thing."

The defendant's family were aware of the allegation and were showing their support, but he was "gutted" he couldn't see his daughters.

The comedian's partner refused to comment in detail yesterday. "I don't want to talk, there are children involved," she said. "Please respect our privacy as if it was one of your own children involved here."

The comedian is represented by top barrister Marie Dyhrberg, who refused to comment.

"I have been around the media a very long time so I am saying absolutely nothing at all about anything," she said.

TV bosses who worked with the comedian also refused to comment.

Comic and TV personality Te Radar said he knew the defendant and there had been a lot of talk in comedy circles about who it might be.

He did not object to name suppression because it was in place to protect the alleged victim.

"At this stage it is an allegation and a very serious allegation and not all allegations are proven to be right.

"Of all the allegations I think this is probably the worst one there is," he said. "Even if you are found innocent of that you're going to be stigmatised for the rest of your life."

The comedian has been ordered to stay away from his daughter, partner and a third female.

He is not allowed direct contact with any children under 16 unless under the supervision of an adult who is not a witness in the case.

He was ordered to surrender his passport and reappear in court in January.

keeping in mind that a child under 12 is involved, i think we should avoid speculating on or posting about who this is/might be...

i find it quite shocking that he didnt realise, but still feel like it was probably an honest, although extreeeeeeemely drunken, and very unfortunate... mistake... whether thats an excuse? i dont know...

Just a question to prod and Aria,i understand as you said we shouldn't put names out there on this one as it involves a minor ect,but how come the mystery musician thread was policed for any metion of his name although we already know who it is,but back in 05 i remember when all those celebs went down for Cocaine and Ecstasy charges,no one raised an eyebrow when their names were plastered all over here, when they had legal name suppression.

On a side note,it looks as though his name has already been leaked online.

From TVNZ
The comedian charged with committing a sexual offence against a child under 12 is the latest to have his name suppression broken online.

The name was leaked in chatrooms as people gave clues as to who it is and some also said his name.

The alleged offending occurred earlier this month.

The man's lawyer Marie Dyhrberg says she can't comment about what action would be taken.

He will reappear in the Auckland District Court at the start of January where he will defend a charge.

The DJ was found guilty but discharged without conviction with name suppression, this case is just beggining and to name someone a child sex offender would kill him, workwise, mentally, emotionally and spiritually...even if dudes found not guilty mud sticks like a mother fucker and he will always be tarnished....if hes found guilty then yeah name and shame the bugger

A very good friend of mine works in the comedy industry here in NZ.He is not a comedian but he works for a top NZ comedian and used to work at the Classic comedy theatre, anyway he told me that who he was told it was.Well not exactly who but it was between 2 people and they are on the same show and the show is a sports related comedy show... ;-)
That might give u a hint.As my mate has just returned to NZ he didn't know which one it was exactly...

Comedian Mike King said he had been inundated with text messages and telephone calls from people asking if he was the entertainer charged.

Comic and TV personality Te Radar said he knew the defendant and there had been a lot of talk in comedy circles about who it might be.

the thread on trademe had been removed,
""can't tell ya, if i tell ya might end up with legal troubles and a huge Bill the author said after it was removed.

I reckon he just got his wang out and didnt realise that his daughter was there. I could possibly understand that if you were REALLY pissed.

I guess it'll come out in the trial or whatever though.

why should 05 make a difference? "05" means 2005 not 1905 eh, suppression laws havent changed since then, its still entirely relevant

Just so you know I wont be doing any of that , everything said in this topic is just speculation no one knows for sure who it is so no one is breaking any laws cause as far as I know speculating over who it is isent illegal.

of course prod has every right to do what he wants on his own board. i just dont understand the DURR LOL R U SERIOUS response when the guy made a good point

by the way, if you google "Pure heresey but apparently its" (in quotes) you get something totally unrelated to this thread and its topic

heh, you put them one after the other like that as if time hasnt passed in between.

i laughed at it, because i think its silly to have a discussion comparing what we said four years ago, to now. and to be honest, kind of unreasonable to even bring it up... had it been a more recent example, say, four months ago, truth, i would have replied differently.

but if we really dont get to change our minds or understandings of things over the course of years, ill remember to take notes for the future.

of course you can change your mind, but why act like youre above it when someone calls you out on it? dude asked a legitimate question and got an asshole remark back. its great that you think its silly to discuss something thats gone a total 180 in fours years, other people on the board might think different, and like i said its prods agenda, he can do what he wants. i dont see why you have to be a dick about it though

honestly, say what you like about people being able to call us out over stuff... i dont necessarily disagree with that... and its not that i think im above it, tho ok yeah, it did come off like that a bit, and im sorry @ streets... BUT, it is a REALLY tiring and tedious thing, at the best of times to have to do, and then being asked to answer for something i only have a vague recollection of from four years ago... it just seemed to me that the answer would be obvious... time changes minds etc...

as you can see, and thanks for finding the thread, the 180, wasnt so much about our personal standpoint, but from one time, not knowing for certain that conjecture was illegal, to now, finding that it actually is... thats all.
